Data shows that today's youth are the loneliest, most stressed and risk-averse on record. Though well-educated, they are failing to launch in real life. So how can we teach them to be mentally strong and more successful? In this talk with Dr. Borba, we talked about building resilience in our youth, including:

RESOURCES | Youth & Public Safety with Christy Keating of The Heartful Parent Collective

Through this expert-led session, Christy Keating of The Heartful Parent focused on the following:

  • Relaying facts about safety

  • Strategies for keeping youth safe

  • How to talk to youth about about scary and/or overwhelming events

  • How to manage anxiety and where to get support if you or your child are victimized

Whether you are a parent, educator, or a concerned individual, this event is designed to equip you with tools to support the safety and well-being of young people in our communities.


In this talk with Dr. Laura Kastner PhD, we took a deep dive into stress resilience, including: 

  • Learning about the science of stress

  • Learning about the relationship between stress and mental health

  • Ways caregivers can model and enhance their children's stress reduction skills through effective and positive parenting

  • Tips and tricks for parents

  • Q&A 

Dr. Laura Kastner is a clinical psychologist who has conducted research, maintained a clinical practice and presented numerous workshops for parents. She is a clinical professor in both the psychology department and the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington.

In addition to her academic articles in the fields of child, adolescent and pediatric psychology, Dr. Kastner has co-authored five books.


Jo Langford of Beheroes.net helps parents figure out how to balance their family’s digital life with boundaries, etiquette, and good judgement.

In this talk, we discussed:

  • A comparison of passive and affirmative consent

  • A breakdown of the biggest hurdles and potholes young people face with regard to consent, and how we can counterbalance them.

  • Definitions and discussions of concepts such as true consent, virginity and rape culture

  • Primers on gender issues, adolescent brain development and best practices for negotiating consent with screens

  • Tips and tricks for parents, a healthy dose of Q&A and a few fun games.

  • The fact that adolescent mental health isn't about feeling good, calm, or relaxed, but about having the right feelings at the right times.
