RESOURCES | Devorah Heitner: Growing Up in Public
Thanks to Devorah Heitner, PhD and Christy Keating of The Heartful Parent Collective, and all those who joined us live for “Growing Up in Public: Milestones of Growing Up in a Digital Age”
It felt like we were just getting started with Q&A and we know we could have spent way more time chatting! We appreciate those of you who submitted questions prior to the event and everyone who asked questions and shared resources while on the call.
A couple of take-aways that our team wrote down:
When evaluating an app for our kids consider
Safety features within the app
The level of supervision I would want over my child’s use of the app
Milestones necessary in development for the app
Benefits of some social media apps
Chat platforms that their school or organizations utilize
Civic tools
Proactively following select thought leaders
Cultivate a culture of consent at home to lay the groundwork for kids to understand consent on social media
Teach our kids that they are being targeted with specific content.
This is not because of something they have clicked on or searched for, but rather because social media platforms know a lot about who they are. Our kids can counter some of this by blocking and by proactively following select groups/people.
